    NEW SUBMARINE UNVEILED

"The Nelson Institute Of Marine Research proudly announces its greatest achievement to date, the submarine Seaview. The keel was laid September 15, 1971 and commissioned July 26, 1973. This ship is dedicated to the development of underwater resources for the future use of man.

The SSRN Seaview is a unique vessel. It is the culmination of years of planning and development. It is the first and only submarine built outside of the Navy. With its full scientific facilities, this heralds a new approach to marine research. Seaview is equipped with the most advanced equipment including the world's most powerful nuclear generators. A most startling unique feature of this submarine is the transparency of the nose. The "windows" being made of a special alloy which Admiral Nelson named "herculite".

The Seaview is attached to the Federal Bureau of Marine Exploration, so though the submarine is a private vessel, it holds a reserve status with the U. S. Navy. She will also be used to test many Department of Defense projects. With her speed and diving capabilites, Seaview is able to accomplish more than any submarine in the past.
